Cleaning

Today in robotics we really didn't do much, other than clean. First I was organizing the bolts, nuts and screws. It might have been seen as little bit of work but let me tell you, it took forever! Then I started to dust off things with the little swimper and there was so much dust. It was like a dust storm, it was horrible because I kept sneezing! Next I myself got all dusty from head to toe. The ASU person came to interview but only interviewed two or one person. I wasn't one of the people interviewed but it's o.k because mostly no one got interviewed. Also, tomorrow we are having a celebration for Oscar and Cindy it cost $10 dollars to go. I'm pretty sure I have money around the house that will cover those expenses. Next I need to remeber to pay my club dues.

Lego Test

Today we had a pop test. Yulie said the test was going to be on Friday but then changed it to Monday! No! Luckily I studied Sunday night. I'm pretty sure I didn't pass it with a 100% but i think I passed it. As long as I pass it I'll be o.k. I have rather passed it with a 100% but since I was surprised I didn't really have much of a option. The test was 10 questions long. It took me about a hour to finish the test but I finally finished and I am waiting for the results of the test. After I finished I went to the robot room and asked if they needed any help they didn't. So I just observed. Liz and Eddie were making this small filter things. They were using the machine that eddied used to make the poles that he needed to make for the robot. I'm just mad because for my computer class this project was do but the computer froze so I couldn't work on the project and it was do today. Then I wanted to work on it after school but the computers were still frozen so I'm going to try to finish it tomorrow. Also, ASU people are coming tomorrow to interview us.

Blogs

  • September, 16 (Thursday) = Last Thursday Yuli and Hugo said we had to come to go to a meeting at lunch. At lunch we discussed the rules of the Lego torments. Yuli was reading the missions and asked if we understood everything that was being read to us. If we didn't understand she or Hugo would explain the rules. Then after school I went to the PSAT meeting where they help you practice for the PSAT. My teacher is Mr. Wang

  • September 17 (Friday)= Last Friday we had a referee meeting after school. We discussed how we need to memorize all the rules and missions. Then we went over the missions. But we only stayed until 5:00p.m. Then Yulie said that if all the referee could go to the FLL Kickoff by getting there themselves.

  • September 18 (Saturday)= On Saturday we went to the FLL Kickoff. My sister was able to take me and Marissa. When we arrived there we set up the fields. Then we heard a presented given to the kids who were going to do lego. After that they just passed the mike to Get Smart. The team Get Smart explained everything about the rules. They knew everything about the rules and the missions. We were able to ask questions. Gloria asked the questions about light censors and colored censors. Then I asked a question on where the eye that is made up lego go. They answered and said that only above the black line of the upper body of the person in the field.  Next we left and we went to get something to eat. Then Ms.H was nice enough to drop me back at Carl Hayden where I then had to go to the program Aguila.

  • September 20 (Monday)=Then on Monday morning I studied the missions a bit. Soon after we studied as a group at lunch. PSAT study group was after school, so I didn't have a chance to go to robotics because right after PSAT tutoring I had to go to band. Also, in band the 8th graders from Issac Middle School are coming over this Friday and we get to play songs with them. Also, we get wear our uniforms, which should be exciting expect you get really sweaty in them, but still there pretty awesome.

  • September 21 (Tuesday)= Yulie, Hugo and Maria told us that we are having a test on everything about lego on Friday. Also, the HAM Radio Test is this Saturday so I better study that.  Lots of studying to do. Then Dillion project is almost over, the ping pong robot aka Hellga.

  • September 22 (Wednesday)= I went to mentor a elementary school, Sutton. The kids were all small and adorable. Some of them didn't a thing about the torments but there were a few who knew about the missions. The kids seemed interested in the FLL. The teachers took them to a computer lab and there the kids got on the internet. Then we went to usfirst.org, the offical FLL. There we showed the kids the field view and explained a little bit about the missions. The childeren still haven't gotten ther field set up kit, it was ordered but has yet to arrive.

Things I did

September 13 (Monday) = After school Yuly and Hugo had a refree meeting where we dicussed the lego rules. We dicussed the real small things. Like if it mattered if the panels black side were facing north or if it was ok if the white panels were facing north. It might be a small thing but it was needed info to judge wether or not the kids got points. In the end we decided that Yule and hugo was going to ask this question to the refree at the FLL kick off.

September 14 (Tuesday) = On Tuesday we worked on the robot. I was screwing in screw into the robot so the metal we had to put on would stay. Then me and Rebecca were taking off screw from the robot Amanda with the help of Bianca and Isabel. Then Ledge told us to careful because electricy was running at the same time we were taking off the screws.

September 15 (Wednesday) = Today on Wednesday we really didn't do much because Ledge was in a meeting. We waited outside the hall until he finished. Then at 4:00 we had meeting. The meeting was about the things we need on the robot and what we can do to improve it. Also, that intel wants to sell these robots that can kick and people can program to do other things. If that happens we willl have to work fast to build them, so far ASU hasn't done anything about this idea and Coasta Rica wants to buy 5 orf 4 of them. So, if Coasta Rica wants to do buy the robot we have to work hard and fast. Then we dicussed the trip to San Diego and the people who are going on the trip need o bring.

Meeting

Had a meeting, talked about who is mentoring schools. So, far we only have 3 schools. And then we dicussed about how someone might want to interview us.

yesterday

Tuesday= They taught us how to be a lego refree. Hugo showed us a video that explained some of the lego rules, like how the bone fractered part has to be covered to earn the full points. Then they showed us other videos. Soon they explained how if a adult starts to scream at us for putting a pentaly point that we get Hugo but we have to be able to defend our case. And to take the competetion seriously because the kids take it seriously.

seeing a movie

Friday= I keep frogetting to blog on Friday. Well hopefully I will remeber next time. Last Friday I stayed after school and we say a short movie called 2 Million Minutes. The movie showed us the other people in different countries such as China and India are more acadmeicaly prepared than U.S.A. They go to school for about 12 hours and then study when they come home. Here in America kids only go to school for 7 hours and don't study at all. They have a advantage on going to better Unvirsity and getting a better degree than us. The only advantage we have is robotics because we get to do things hands on while people in other countires don't. John roommate came and he is chinese and he went to school for 12 hours and always studies. And he came to a American school because he says there is more freedom here and you do more hands on things.

Working on the Robot

Today in Robotics I went to the fundraising workshop. The presentars showed us how to raise money, who to ask, how to ask and other useful things. So, far I have earned only one tax credit but I'm gojng to get more. Next we went to the robotics room and were putting space between wheels and the material to make sure the wheels could move properly. Also, we were putting metal shafts in the wheels through the small little opening to hold the wheels and balance them. Mia, Jenny and I were in charge of cutting the metal shafts. We took turns cutting it with a saw because after a while you got tired of cutting metal. At first we were using a dull blade and it took forever to cut two metal shafts but then we got a better blade. With the better blade we got vut the metal shaft so much faster!

Last Friday

I forgot to blog on Friday. On Friday I was observing how to put the transmitter and wheels on the robot. They were measuring and making sure it was balanced. Next they started to screw in drills to the material to make the frame stay together. After that I started to actually do something other than observe. I got to do use the grinder to grind the material into a shape. It was to show you how to get more experienced  in using the grinding machine, drill, measure and how to cut the material.
