ACE

I applied for the ace program. I wrote the essay, it come to be about two pages long. The essay took me a long time to write. But I think it came out really good. I had my english teacher proof read it and they said it was great. So, hopefully I get accepted. When I first wrote it, I forgot to blog about it when I turned in the essay. And might as well write about it late than not write about it. Also, I was excited in my english class when I got a 50/50 on my writing paper. I was so worried because I thought I didn't write it well on it but it came out alright. Then yesterday after school I had to go finish my computer project. When I finished it, I went to robotics. I helped out with writing the map. I just put in three rooms in the map and the program we used was so frusting. It made itself more complicated than it had to be. After that I had to go to band practice.

Electrical

Over the last few weeks, I became a electrical in training. Bianca, Isabel, and Stapheny have been teaching people about electrical. Last time we were making a AUV. It took a lot of trouble. Such as, the wires were getting cut of the cord when being stripped. Also, the silver wire thing that was all around the edges took a while to take off and some people had cut the wires when taking off the silver wire thing. Next when we had finally all the silver wire thing off and the wires were all stripped without being cut off; they slaughtered them together. But the problem was that the wires were really tiny and were hard to slaughter with accuracy. Then we also had to add the heat shrink but the heat shrinks shrunk before they were suppose to. because they were narrow. By the time the they slaughtered the heat shrinks had already shrunk. So, we had to start all over. Next Ledge came in and told us the silver wire thing wasn't suppose to be taken off. After that we had to cut the part of the wires that slaughtered off but we were going to that anyways because of the heat shrinks. When we cut them off we started to put things away since it was already 6:30.

STEP

Finished writing my STEP essay yesterday. It took forever but I finished it. Then I had to finish my altar project. I almost finished the computer part, I just need to make my animation into a movie. I have everything else though, my audio and animation is completed. Then we had to make a little box altar or a poster. I chose the box. That itself took forever to complete as well. Didn't get much sleep today, hopefully I will never put anything off that long. But at least it finished.

Computer School

Yesterday, on Thursday I went to school for my computer class. If you went on your day off you could three hours of non-stop computer design. I need to record and animate my film. My brother was suppose to drop me off at school but in the morning he decided not to. So, I took the bus and got there a hour late. Then I only had two hours to work. I wanted to record but the line was really huge. I had to wait and was the last one to record but she had to go. All I did was animate but your animation needs to go with your recording but I didn't record. So, I really didn't get much done.

Last Week

Monday = Started doing the auto bots. Isabel showed me a lot about electrician. Mostly we were drilling the equipment on the board. Next we waited for them to mount the board onto the robot to do more things to it. Then we put the USB in and put some wire in.

Tuesday = Isabel and Stephany were salturing wires. I saltured a bit, so did Rebeca.

Wednesday= We were building Andersans. We were missing some of the parts, so we had to look for a piece in a wire box. It took forever to find the right piece.

Thursday= Wasn't really do much because they were going on a field trip. Mostly just packing everything and making sure they had everything. There were going to a science fair at a high school. I would have liked to go but I had band practice.

Friday= Didn't go to school because I was sick. Had a high fever and my mom didn't let me go to school. But I convinced her to let me go to the football game for band. So, I went to the football game and felt awful during the game. Went home like at 10:40.
This Saturday the band had a competition. It was at Agua Fria High School. I think there was about 20 high schools there. We had worked really hard. And we got a score of a excellent which is like a B. So, now we are going to state competition. Everyone was excited. Our competetion is in a week.

MLK

I sent in the leadership poster I did for ASU. The drawing is basically to two ducks, the first duck is trying to get up the slope and the second duck is helping the first one get up. Then I wrote Leadership is............. helping others EXCEED. I myself think it's a good poster. I don't know if I will win, I'll find out on Nov 18. On Nov 18 they will send notifications to those who have won. Hopefully I win. Also, I'm trying to get in this program. The program is about letting you go to a country for the whole summer and learning their language. And it's completely free! The government it paying for it. They want people exposed to the outside world and getting students interested about the world. I'm applying to go to China and learning Chinese. The deadline is Dec 4. So, I have to do it before Dec 4.

Tuesday, October 19, 2010

Today I'm going to do the ASU.edu/MLK. The Martin Luther King contest for ASU. You have draw something about leadership. First place winner gets $150 saving bond, second place is $100 saving bond and finally third place is $75 saving bond. And also, your work gets published into a book mark. And all you have to do is draw! So, might as well do it, and if I don't win at least it's not like I wasted a lot of time.

Meeting

Today in robotics we had a small meeting. In the beginning we talked about how the miners were finally rescued today after two long months. Soon after Ledge spoke about the AUV. How the hydrophones cost 1,000 and something dollars. And we need two of them! So, he asked who wanted to do researches on them. Me, Martinez and I think Jesus volunteers to do research on them. Now I'm going to do research on hydrophones. Yeah! Then he discussed how a lot of sponsors are not giving us money this year. So, the back of the robotics shirt are going to be blank! The team now has to raise more money. I'm going to try to raise more money.

Monday & Tuesday

Monday= We had a refree meeting. We went to the play room and someone broke the brains of the lego sets. So, we spent about a hour fixing them making sure they had the right parts and stuff. Then I had to leave for band practice.

Tuesday= Today in the morning we dicussed NURC. We went to the play room where Dillion, Liz, and other people were doing the NURC project. And after school I came late because I was finishing something in Mrs. Ramirez math class. I bearly finished in time.

Thrusday, Friday, Saturday

Thursday: Last Thursday I didn't go to the ham radio workshop because I had band practice. Practice started from 8-12. Then you have to be thee before 8 so you have your instrument ready and everything.

Friday: Then on Friday I had band practice again. So, I didn't go to the ham radio workshop. But I did leave practice at 10 so I can take the ham radio test. I passed.

Saturday: I had a and competition. We got a "good" which is average. A lot of people cried because they wanted a excellence. Only percussion(drum people) got a excellence.

Ham Radio Workshop Day 3

Today was day 3 of the ham radio workshop. This time the workshop was from 7:00am-12:00 instead of 7:00-11:00. We discussed a lot. Such as the things you can do with the ham radio such as talk to people in space. Also, talking to people in Antarctica, Australia and so many other places. We also talked about how the radio signals use ionizing layer to travel the signal.  Since signals have to go straight but there is sometimes mountains blocking the signal so the signal gets by the mountains by using ionizing layer. There was so much we learned today. Then we saw a video about emergencies handled with ham radio. The test for ham radio is Friday. But unfortunately I have band practice Thursday and Friday so I can't go to the class but I'm sure the band teacher will allow me to miss a hour or 30 minutes to do the test. Huh. Band practice it tomorrow, I don't feel like going but I'll go. Also, we got out ham radio books today.

Ham Radio Workshop Day 2

Today I went in for day 2 of the ham radio workshop taught by Mr. Carmen. I went late to class because my alarm didn't go off today. I arrived 25 minutes late, I'm so ashamed! I won't let this happen again. In the class he taught us a lot about frequencies and wave length. Also, the metric system, we have to memorize a bunch of number like 146. So, much numbers it was a bit confusing but Mr. Carmen said there will probably be only 1 or 2 questions on the test about that( YAH!). He kept teaching for 4 hours just like yesterday. Expect yesterday I took notes and today I didn't because there were so much numbers and stuff; so if I took notes I probably wouldn't pay attetion to other things Mr.Carmen was saying. So, I just listen and payed attetion. The class ended like at 11:02. Then the Ledge talked about how the class tomorrow is going to last an extra hour tomorrow. Also, he spoke about how the coastal rico project is going.

HAM RADIO WORKSHOP

Today is fallbreak week. For a whole week I don't have to go to school. Yet I'm at school because I want to do the ham radio workshop to pass the radio test. It's a 4 hour class with 5 minutes every hour I believe. The workshop was actually very useful. I was studying for the test on my own and I was passing almost every test. But I didn't really understand the material. Now I understand some of the material and hopefully throughout the week I'll get to understand all of it. If I understand all of it I'll probaly pass the test. No, let me correct myself I will pass the test! Then after the class Ledge was talking to us about the movie HOME. It sounds really good, what Ledge said was it about how we have 10 years to change the Earth for the best. If we don't change it then we will change planet Earth forever, and you can't fix it after that. So, hopefully I'll get to see if soon. Heres the link for anyone who wants to see it

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday

Wednesday= On Wednesday we had to attetand a social event for Oscar and Cindy. We had to bring food and mingle with others. I brought chips and I actually started talking to adults. Then I got into a very interesting conversation about how milk in Hawaii is kept fresh for a very long time. Since they get everything imported they can food and milk. Also, I found out that there is a beach where the sand is black. It's black because of all the volanic ashes.

Thursday= I couldn't go to afterschool robotics because I had to finish my computer class project.

Friday= Today in the morning we had a meeting. We dicussed alot of things. Such as the parts we need for the ROV. Also, about how we need to bring toys for the toy drive. Next they talked about how there is a first Friday in downtown. The robotics people are going to be showing the robot to the public. Also, there is art shows and galleries where you can go in for free on that date. I wish I could go but I can't because I had to go to a away football game in Central High School for band. But I did learn to slaughter a wire. Bianca taught me how. She is a awesome teacher. Then she taught me and Martin othere things, like dices.

Cleaning

Today in robotics we really didn't do much, other than clean. First I was organizing the bolts, nuts and screws. It might have been seen as little bit of work but let me tell you, it took forever! Then I started to dust off things with the little swimper and there was so much dust. It was like a dust storm, it was horrible because I kept sneezing! Next I myself got all dusty from head to toe. The ASU person came to interview but only interviewed two or one person. I wasn't one of the people interviewed but it's o.k because mostly no one got interviewed. Also, tomorrow we are having a celebration for Oscar and Cindy it cost $10 dollars to go. I'm pretty sure I have money around the house that will cover those expenses. Next I need to remeber to pay my club dues.

Lego Test

Today we had a pop test. Yulie said the test was going to be on Friday but then changed it to Monday! No! Luckily I studied Sunday night. I'm pretty sure I didn't pass it with a 100% but i think I passed it. As long as I pass it I'll be o.k. I have rather passed it with a 100% but since I was surprised I didn't really have much of a option. The test was 10 questions long. It took me about a hour to finish the test but I finally finished and I am waiting for the results of the test. After I finished I went to the robot room and asked if they needed any help they didn't. So I just observed. Liz and Eddie were making this small filter things. They were using the machine that eddied used to make the poles that he needed to make for the robot. I'm just mad because for my computer class this project was do but the computer froze so I couldn't work on the project and it was do today. Then I wanted to work on it after school but the computers were still frozen so I'm going to try to finish it tomorrow. Also, ASU people are coming tomorrow to interview us.

Blogs

  • September, 16 (Thursday) = Last Thursday Yuli and Hugo said we had to come to go to a meeting at lunch. At lunch we discussed the rules of the Lego torments. Yuli was reading the missions and asked if we understood everything that was being read to us. If we didn't understand she or Hugo would explain the rules. Then after school I went to the PSAT meeting where they help you practice for the PSAT. My teacher is Mr. Wang

  • September 17 (Friday)= Last Friday we had a referee meeting after school. We discussed how we need to memorize all the rules and missions. Then we went over the missions. But we only stayed until 5:00p.m. Then Yulie said that if all the referee could go to the FLL Kickoff by getting there themselves.

  • September 18 (Saturday)= On Saturday we went to the FLL Kickoff. My sister was able to take me and Marissa. When we arrived there we set up the fields. Then we heard a presented given to the kids who were going to do lego. After that they just passed the mike to Get Smart. The team Get Smart explained everything about the rules. They knew everything about the rules and the missions. We were able to ask questions. Gloria asked the questions about light censors and colored censors. Then I asked a question on where the eye that is made up lego go. They answered and said that only above the black line of the upper body of the person in the field.  Next we left and we went to get something to eat. Then Ms.H was nice enough to drop me back at Carl Hayden where I then had to go to the program Aguila.

  • September 20 (Monday)=Then on Monday morning I studied the missions a bit. Soon after we studied as a group at lunch. PSAT study group was after school, so I didn't have a chance to go to robotics because right after PSAT tutoring I had to go to band. Also, in band the 8th graders from Issac Middle School are coming over this Friday and we get to play songs with them. Also, we get wear our uniforms, which should be exciting expect you get really sweaty in them, but still there pretty awesome.

  • September 21 (Tuesday)= Yulie, Hugo and Maria told us that we are having a test on everything about lego on Friday. Also, the HAM Radio Test is this Saturday so I better study that.  Lots of studying to do. Then Dillion project is almost over, the ping pong robot aka Hellga.

  • September 22 (Wednesday)= I went to mentor a elementary school, Sutton. The kids were all small and adorable. Some of them didn't a thing about the torments but there were a few who knew about the missions. The kids seemed interested in the FLL. The teachers took them to a computer lab and there the kids got on the internet. Then we went to usfirst.org, the offical FLL. There we showed the kids the field view and explained a little bit about the missions. The childeren still haven't gotten ther field set up kit, it was ordered but has yet to arrive.

Things I did

September 13 (Monday) = After school Yuly and Hugo had a refree meeting where we dicussed the lego rules. We dicussed the real small things. Like if it mattered if the panels black side were facing north or if it was ok if the white panels were facing north. It might be a small thing but it was needed info to judge wether or not the kids got points. In the end we decided that Yule and hugo was going to ask this question to the refree at the FLL kick off.

September 14 (Tuesday) = On Tuesday we worked on the robot. I was screwing in screw into the robot so the metal we had to put on would stay. Then me and Rebecca were taking off screw from the robot Amanda with the help of Bianca and Isabel. Then Ledge told us to careful because electricy was running at the same time we were taking off the screws.

September 15 (Wednesday) = Today on Wednesday we really didn't do much because Ledge was in a meeting. We waited outside the hall until he finished. Then at 4:00 we had meeting. The meeting was about the things we need on the robot and what we can do to improve it. Also, that intel wants to sell these robots that can kick and people can program to do other things. If that happens we willl have to work fast to build them, so far ASU hasn't done anything about this idea and Coasta Rica wants to buy 5 orf 4 of them. So, if Coasta Rica wants to do buy the robot we have to work hard and fast. Then we dicussed the trip to San Diego and the people who are going on the trip need o bring.

Meeting

Had a meeting, talked about who is mentoring schools. So, far we only have 3 schools. And then we dicussed about how someone might want to interview us.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

yesterday

Tuesday= They taught us how to be a lego refree. Hugo showed us a video that explained some of the lego rules, like how the bone fractered part has to be covered to earn the full points. Then they showed us other videos. Soon they explained how if a adult starts to scream at us for putting a pentaly point that we get Hugo but we have to be able to defend our case. And to take the competetion seriously because the kids take it seriously.

seeing a movie

Friday= I keep frogetting to blog on Friday. Well hopefully I will remeber next time. Last Friday I stayed after school and we say a short movie called 2 Million Minutes. The movie showed us the other people in different countries such as China and India are more acadmeicaly prepared than U.S.A. They go to school for about 12 hours and then study when they come home. Here in America kids only go to school for 7 hours and don't study at all. They have a advantage on going to better Unvirsity and getting a better degree than us. The only advantage we have is robotics because we get to do things hands on while people in other countires don't. John roommate came and he is chinese and he went to school for 12 hours and always studies. And he came to a American school because he says there is more freedom here and you do more hands on things.

Working on the Robot

Today in Robotics I went to the fundraising workshop. The presentars showed us how to raise money, who to ask, how to ask and other useful things. So, far I have earned only one tax credit but I'm gojng to get more. Next we went to the robotics room and were putting space between wheels and the material to make sure the wheels could move properly. Also, we were putting metal shafts in the wheels through the small little opening to hold the wheels and balance them. Mia, Jenny and I were in charge of cutting the metal shafts. We took turns cutting it with a saw because after a while you got tired of cutting metal. At first we were using a dull blade and it took forever to cut two metal shafts but then we got a better blade. With the better blade we got vut the metal shaft so much faster!

Last Friday

I forgot to blog on Friday. On Friday I was observing how to put the transmitter and wheels on the robot. They were measuring and making sure it was balanced. Next they started to screw in drills to the material to make the frame stay together. After that I started to actually do something other than observe. I got to do use the grinder to grind the material into a shape. It was to show you how to get more experienced  in using the grinding machine, drill, measure and how to cut the material.

Experience

In the morning I was taking the ham radio test when Oscar came back form Mexico, legally. With the help of the media and robotics he was able to come back to the U.S.A from Mexico. He has a electric engineering degree! Everyone was so happy and got in a group hug. It looked like Ledge wanted to cry, everyone was so emotional and happy. Even Richard was there in the morning from "Arizona Republic" and we took a picture of the whole group. Then after school in robotics. I went to the Robotics room. Dillon, Jorge and some one else ( don't know her name) were in charge of teaching the new people on how to build a robot. They were showing what we need to do to put the wheels on the robot. The measurement had to be exact. I got to make sure the levels of the fiber glass were squared. Soon the table got really full and I wasn't doing anything so I went to see what else I could do. I saw Karol ( think i spelled his name right) and some senior doing things. So, I decided that I should ask if Karol teach what he was teaching the senior. He taught me how to grind the material to a almost smooth edge on the grinding machine. Then he taught me how to cut the material with a small saw because I was having difficulties using the big one. Then I learned how to measure. Next I had to go to band so I waited for Mia who is also in band and drilling something in. While I waited I talked to Bianca and she was taking out a small metal thing from a small plastic box thing. If she did take it out then they could reuse it and it wouldn't go in the trash. I also found out about the car accident in the falcon retreat. I hope the three guys are alright.

Last Friday

I forgot to blog last Friday. So, I'm blogging on a Monday morning. I didn't go Friday morning to Robotics because I had to go to band pratice in the morning. Next I came after school and I helped Isabel organize shelves for open house. Mia, Sandra, and I then went outside and passed sponsers borchures out to college representation to help Robotics. I don't if they will sponser but I left my e-mail with them so if they have any questions they can contact me. Well if they don't sponsper, it didn't hurt to try. Next my mom came to open house, which was a surprise because she said she couldn't come. I showed her my classes ( had A's in each one), then I had to go to band to play at the football game. Our football team lost 14 to 33.

Google phone calls

Today in the morning Ledge took credit for showing us that google can call people using a computer. I saw the little pop up for that yesterday on my google docs but i didn'y pay much to it. Guess taking things that are important for granted. But anyhow they demonstartaed it worked by making Jesus call Eddie using his computer and a mircophone. It worked so now we can call peopel using computers! And today I'm coming after school for robotics and not going to Blue Planet. I need to start doing things more things in robotics so I guess I need to stop going to Blue Planet plus I need to be in robotics more often because there going to show me the important things about being a extra lego refree.

Movie

Today after school we saw a movie called "The Road" which was depressing. It was about a how there was a apocles on earth and how the world change. First there wasn't any food left because the sun doesn't give the earth enough sun light to grow anything plus the all animals died. So, people ate people in other words cannibalism. But they did that survive. The main characters in the story is about a father and a son trying to make it through the harsh life. This movie makes you apperciate everything you have. And it makes you look at the world with fesh eyes. There are people with similar situation such as not having any water or dirty water which they can't drink. Also, people not having enough food and dieing from it. This movie makes you feel like the luckiest alive.

Meeting

In today morning meeting we talked about the fiber glass and how it is still running. We also dicussed fieldtrips ad who's going. Next we spoke about open house this friday and how they need any help avaible. So, I'll be helping this friday. Then we talked that the $10 are due this friday. The $10 will get you a robotic t-shirt. Also about this magazine that provides useful and interesting information that we should subscribe to. In the magazine there was a article about a man who made a open transmitter and needs $10, 000 to send it to space. So, hopefully I will subscribe to this maganize.

part 1

Yesterday I didn't go to robotics because I was sick. When I was the car I couldn't breath, I felt like I didn't have any air. Then I threw up and got a horrible stomach ache. My mother didn't allow me to go school. But today I'm feeling much better.

Meeting and Refree

Today in the morning we had a meeting. We dicussed who will go and mentor there middle school for lego robotics. Then we talked about the people who are going to take the radio test ( which I am and Sandra). Next we dicussed the toy drive and how we should bring in toys for the kids in the hospital. The childern in the hositpal will get these toys on Christmas so they get presents. After that we spoke about how the fish tank experiment went. Our conclusion was that the degree went up one degree. And we don't know if that was good or bad but I hope that is good. Then I and Mia volunteered to be lego referee. We are not allowed to go to the bathroom! No water for me on that day.

Busy

I couldn't make it to robotics yesterday. I had to go to band in the morning for the pep rally. Then at lunch I signed up to go to a latina art muesum. And I couldn't go after school because I had to go to blue planet. I'm so disappoint that I couldn't make it. Hopefully that will happen again.

Ham Radio Test

Today i'm trying to get better at passing the ham radio pre-test. Yesterday I passed some of the tests but not all. So, I'm trying to pass the tests that I didn't pass before.

1st Blog

Today after school I'm taking a pre-test for the hand radio. Then hopefully I'll be ready for the actual test and pass it. This way I can have a license to operate a hand radio. Also, I plan to work on the legos.
